Ajahn Amaro at Bodh Gaya Recitation Event

A golden opportunity to join Ajahn Amaro and the sangha  from Arañña Saṅghārāma for a short pilgrimage to Bodh Gaya from 1–4 December 2026.Ajahn Amaro will be participating in the Recitation Event at Bodh Gaya  on 2 & 3  December 2026.

Itinerary for Pilgrimage under Ajahn Amaro’s guidance

1–4 December 2026 | Arañña Saṅghārāma – Bodh Gaya

1 December — Chandigarh   → Patna → Barabar → Kauwa Dol → Gaya

Early morning

  • 3:00 am — Depart  Arañña Saṅghārāma for Chandigarh Airport. 
  • 5:00 am — Arrive at Chandigarh Airport. 
  • 07:10 am — Flight from Chandigarh (IXC) to Patna. 
  • 08:50 am — Arrive Patna. 

Breakfast: Packed breakfast prepared by Arañña Saṅghārāma, to be carried by the group and eaten at the airport or during the flight.

  • 9:30 am — Depart Patna Airport by road. 
  • 11:00 am — Reach the Barabar area. 
  • 11:00 am–12:00 noon — Lunch at/near the Barabar foothills. Exact venue to be confirmed. 
  • 12:00 noon–2:30 pmBarabar Caves, Time for meditation, Quiet/practice possible recitation/reflection with Ajahn Amaro 
  • 2:30 pm — Leave for Kauwa Dol 
  • 3:00–4:00 pm — Kauwa Dol 
  • 4:00 pm — Leave for Gaya 
  • 5.00 pm–  Hotel check-in Nampana and rest 


2 December-— Mahabodhi Temple + ITCC + Ajahn Amaro’s Talk

  • 5:00–6:30 am — Morning meditation at Mahabodhi Temple / Meditation Park 
  • 6:30–7:30 am — Return to hotel 
  • Breakfast at hotel 
  • 8:00–10:30 am — Join the ITCC procession from Royal Thai Monastery to Kalachakra Ground followed by meal at Kalachakra Ground. 
  • Rest
  • 3:00 pm — Ajahn Amaro’s key note talk at the Sri Maha-Bodhi Temple as part of the Inauguration of ITCC.
  • Evening Nampana
  • 6:00 pm : Ajahn Amaro’s evening talk under the Bodhi Tree 

3 December — Mahabodhi Temple → Dungeshwari → Gaya 

Early morning

  • 5:00–6:30 am — Morning meditation at Mahabodhi Temple. 
  • 6:30–7:30 am — Return to hotel and breakfast. 

Morning

  • 8:00 am — Depart for Dungeshwari Caves with a packed lunch 
  • 8:30 am– 12.00 pm — Dungeshwari: 
  • 12:00 pm — Depart Dungeshwari. 
  • 12.30  pm — Return to Gaya and prepare for the ITCC programme. 
  • 4:00 pm : Naam Paana 
  • 6:30 pm : Ajahn Amaro’s 2nd evening talk under the Bodhi tree  

4 December 

  • 5:00–6:30 am — Morning meditation at Mahabodhi Temple. 
  • 6:30–7:30 am — Return to hotel and breakfast. 
  • Informal interaction with Ajahn and early meal. 
  • 11:00 am – departure for Gaya airport 
  • 1:40pm – GAYA-BKK flight (TG 328)

Important Information

Joining the pilgrimage

  • Participants  may join the pilgrimage at Patna Airport on 1 December or join later at Gaya/Bodh Gaya.
  • Those joining at Patna should plan to reach the airport by around 8:30 am.
  • Those joining later can meet the group in Gaya after the Barabar Caves and Kauwa Dol visits, with arrival expected around 5:00 pm.
  • Participants coming for the 28–29 November weekend retreat at  Arañña Saṅghārāma  may also continue with the pilgrimage.

Extended Pilgrimage with Ajahn Kevali 5-14 December 

Those who wish to extend their pilgrimage from 5–14 December under the guidance of Ajahn Kevali are welcome to do so. Participants may arrange their departure from the extended pilgrimage at a suitable point, as required.

Cost & Arrangements

  •  The pilgrimage is completely self-financed by the participants. The organisers will assist with coordinating accommodation, local pilgrimage travel, meals and other necessary arrangements during the pilgrimage.
  •  The shared cost will depend on the final number of participants
  • The cost will be equally divided among the participants
  •  Participants will need to pay on registration, with an advance payment required to confirm participation.
  •  Flight tickets/ Train tickets to and from the pilgrimage are to be booked by individual participants 
  •  Those who wish to contribute towards the accommodation, food, pilgrimage travel and other related expenses of the participating monastics are welcome to do so. The amount will be shared among those participants who wish to contribute.
  •  Personal expenses such as dinner, water, laundry and other incidental expenses are not included.
  •  Entry fees, if any, will be charged on actuals.
